Writing under a Montreal sky

À Magpie!

These are among my favourite birds! I don’t really know why but along with crows, I love them. I had been trying to get a good picture of one ever since I came to Spain mid September. Somehow I knew I would see one in the Madrid Botanical Gardens so I made up my mind to trust to Google Maps to get me there from my Hostel.

It seems that Google Maps is just as confused as anyone about the medieval squares and twisty streets of this city.. but… readers, you know me! I persisted and found myself in these lovely gardens.

Autumn is here too

But I was able to walk around in a short-sleeved top and enjoy what was left of the blooms.

Last of the dahlias

Thank goodness my sense of direction is better than Google Maps or I would still be wandering around.

Across the street from

the Botanical Gardens was this wonderful wall of plants. Oh for the climate that allows this!

A beautiful start to my day!

My hostel, where I have stayed before has a very nice rooftop restaurant.

This evening , after à walking tour of old Madrid in the morning and my treck to the Gardens in the afternoon I decided to pick up a light supper in the market and eat in the “ in house” dining room. Then I went upstairs for a watered down red wine “ vino tinto verano” and started talking to a charming Brazilian lady. Barbara is a physician who has decided to practice in Portugal for a while. So, the end of my day was as pleasant as the morning!

Tomorrow… the Prado, as long as Google Maps doesn’t lead me off to the Louvre!
