Writing under a Montreal sky

The evening ferry

This evening we went for a walk on the beach. This beach is quite close to my daughter’ s home. I often walk here but tonight after watering the lot, we hopped in the car and went for a quick paddle. It had been quite windy and so the waves were a bit high.

Hardly breakers

but this is not the Pacific, after all. It was very hot today ( for this part of the world). I am always surprised that more people are not in the sea in the evenings.

Up on Mr Washington

This is from last night. I can’t write about this yet as o may have a surprise to divulge soon

Some advice for drivers!

I found your blog this morning, because my mother, who has dementia, started repeating, “Black is the raven, black is the crow” and I did a search for the phrase. She has settled down now and is enjoying watching the bird feeder, which is alive with sparrows, tits and some sort of finch that I should look up. I have spent a very happy hour reading your site.

Before I took on care responsibilities, I was planning to start cycle touring and I was hoping to do the Camino, after warming up with the Canterbury pilgrimage, closer to home. I have enjoyed a vicarious pilgrimage through your pictures and your lovely writing.

It is such a shame that there aren’t more personal blogs any more. I have never got on with the restless, disposable content of social media. I like the way a blog preserves and frames experience, giving it a greater substance. Thank you for an aesthetic pleasure that is now quite rare.

Thanks for your kind comment. I admit to rather sketchy notes on this Camino. I did the Frances in 2021 and made a stab at the Portuguese in 2023. This was the first one I walked with others and since the Inverieno is very lonely I was glad to have others with me. A twisted ankle on a route where one might see no one for a whole day and night would be a disaster. Bon courage in caring with your Mum. My own mother was very physically fragile but she was able to be in a residence until the end (about 10 years ago). It was still a great responsibility though so I feel for what you are going through. I have been quite lax about doing the blog lately so thanks for the reminder to be more regular. cheers – Isobel
