Betty

Tilt your head

to see Betty’s crown. While I was on Vancouver Island recently I had time to enjoy time with this Pacific Broad-Leaf Maple who. Grows in my daughter’s garden. We named her Betty a few years ago in honor of my late mother.

The human Betty

was not mighty or statuesque but she had great dignity and spread her arms wide.

I don’t know why this moss-clad matriarch

reminds my daughter and I so much of my mother but Betty she is and so shall remain.

Even here

far from her birthplace she may be providing a home… for someone.
