I haven’t posted for a while. Things always got a little crazy over the holidays. On the spur of the moment I decided to take on a cat-sitting gig for the period between Christmas and New Years.it is turning out to be a great success. I arrived on Boxing Day evening by train. The train was a little late but my kind hosts, Marc and Pilar drove me from the station and served a delicious supper. As soon as they had introduced me to my charge Mimi-Mimi and helped me get familiar with the house, we all turned in early. I was a bit tired from the Christmas clean up and a train ride that featured constant hooting of the train. Marc and Pilar were planning an early start the next morning.
I slept phenomenally well and on the 27 th began to make friends with the very sweet cat who would be keeping me company. I did go out for my daily walk but stayed close to home. Today, now that I understood Mimi’s routine, I planned a trip to the National Gallery of Canada. It has been ages since I had been in Ottawa and had forgotten the impressive collection of art housed at the building on Sussex Drive. The medieval and Renaissance works blew me away in terms of scope and variety.

The iconic Canadian works reminded me that these are not just cliches or images. They really exist and are so beautiful “ in person”.

I revelled in just a fraction of what was displayed. The trilingual notices were an inspiring addition.

I kept an eye on the time as I didn’t want to leave my friend for too long. I walked back -about 3.5 km and was rewarded with a friendly welcome.
Tomorrow … the Museum of History!
