Writing under a Montreal sky

This is a jellyfish

Not a whale. My daughter, Elizabeth and I went out on a covered boat with about 8 other people from the dock on Campbell River this morning. We did see some whales, some orcas and some humpbacks but in the manner of most living creatures who aren’t interested in humans, they were hard to photograph.

Sea lions

These were easier to photograph. They were basking on a buoy and squabbling about who would have the best spot.

Even last year

I didn’t get much in the way of photos. This is a humpback whale’s tail. Today we saw more orcas. They are sleek and look like fast boats. Their high dorsal fins are shiny and black. Last year we went on a zodiac which was noisier and we couldn’t walk around on board as we could today. The weather today was superb and, in fact the sky, sea and scenery made up for the few whales we saw.

The Rocky Mountains on the mainland

It was a dreamy day.
