Writing under a Montreal sky

Above the River

There are many shallow rivers that flow into the Strait of Georgia close to my daughter’s home. A short drive and a 1 Km walk brought us to this wonderful view and the prospect of a dip in the cool river. It was a hot day and about to get hotter as we faced the scramble down the path to the shore.

Steep and unstable

Why do pictures never show how steep things are?

Not exactly smooth footing!

Good or bad, I am very persistent when I get an idea into my head. I wanted my dip in the river and…. there was no turning back! My poor daughter had her doubts but down we went. I was happy to have one hiking pole with me. The knowledge that coming back up would be easier than going down was an encouragement. “Easier” being a relative term, of course.

Relaxing on the bank

Such a swimming hole requires one to wear shoes as the bottom is littered with twigs, branches and half decayed leaves. The water was lovely and refreshing and we found a submerged log that made a perfect seat.

Easier access

We only found this place after we had done our Tame Tarzan imitation of crawling up the steeper path as we hung onto half-submerged tree roots. Wet shoes were no help as we sloshed and slipped about. Still, I wouldn’t have missed this experience for anything.

The water looks so inviting! I am not surprised that you insisted on the fresh dip! I am sure your daughter was grateful afterwards!
