Writing under a Montreal sky

Elk Falls

Yes, such a place really exists and is accessible for ordinary people to walk to after a 20 minute drive out of town

A “mother” tree

Yes, loggers came and cut down great Douglas furs, hemlocks, and cedars for decades. But nature is resilient and from such mother trees more giants arose.

Walking over the suspension bridge

There was a certain Harrison Ford apprehension, particularly since the bolts on some of the connections looked pretty rusty to my unschooled eye.

Looking down from the bridge

Nature is pretty spectacular around here on the Island but human beings are inventive and persistent too. At last we’re starting to respect and cherish nature as we need to.

Living fossils

These ferns, Equisetum, were around before the dinosaurs. They reproduce be spores and here they are greening up the forest.

Torrential rain as we got home

It had been very dry for days but a mighty thunderstorm broke just as we were coming home. I hope the storm reached over to a forest fire that has been burning on the Island for days.

A reminder

Fall on its way. Enjoy every day!
