Aaaand we’re off!

Make sure you have candles

and matches! This afternoon we had our first power cut of the season. Not to be out last I’m sure. Just as I was settling into an interesting podcast…. Stygian darkness! Yes I have flashlights but, they didn’t turn on and yes, I had batteries but…. some, it seems, are duds.

My phone had a light

which allowed me to search for the candles I knew were in the drawer where the best tablecloths live. I even have candle-sticks so I was able to settle down to a bit of writing in spite of the annoying chirp of the smoke alarm. Do you think I don’t know I ‘m sitting in gloom?

Anyway it only lasted about an hour and in spite of Hydro Quebec posting that the cause of the outage was “ unknown “ I’d bet on the howling winds that sprang up after the dazzling sunshine died down.

C’m on guys! This is Quebec. Wind, snow, freezing rain. We can expect them all on the next few months. Power outages ? I guess we should expect them too.

Right, off to find that gadget that tests batteries now!
