Writing under a Montreal sky

The local ferry

Yesterday morning as I sat on the lovely balcony of the Air BnB my niece found for me, I felt a sort of trembling from the patio sofa I was sitting on. A heavy truck passing by? The local ferry docking? But there was no heavy truck in sight, the ferry was not at the dock. Kefalonia is famous for devastating earthquakes in the modern era-one in 1953 and one in 2014. I simply sat as the faint rattle of the iron frame of the sofa continued After a minute or two it stopped. Later that afternoon in casual conversation-“ yeah, 5.7 Eh, I didn’t feel it but at the bank they told me…,”

This conversation took place here – my niece’s daughter has an orange tree that puts out blossom and fruit at the same time!

Now, or later!
I met Rocky

Rocky is one of those dogs who is so absolutely delighted to see you that head colds, earthquakes, the currency conversion rates are all forgotten in the joy of his grin. He was a stray ( the term in Greek is adespoto or without master) who turned up at a party and refused to leave. It is very hard to get a good photo of Rocky as he is forever putting his head on your knee, jumping over the high wall of the orchard to investigate doggy things or running around delighted at being in company. Earthquakes don’t seem so important when you’re hanging with Rocky.

This much for today as the Greeks say …
